Teac X 2000 M, black
What about this....
There they were. Taking up valuable space. Two TEAC X-2000-, a friend of
my Father's had kept them in their boxes, in his store room, for the
last 10+ years. This friend had originally used them for one job: Audio
testing in conjunction with the "Light Show" he had created (he's in
fibre optics)for the opening of a new building. The company contracted
in for the audio work hadn't arrived, and he wanted to get his bit
right.
They were offered to me. He didn't want them. I said "yes!"
I'd always liked the idea of having a reel-to-reel machine in my living
room, and new some people that would too. In fact I'd partly agreed a
price for one with a friend before I'd even got them. But when they did
arrive, one look at them told me we were dealing with something that
deserved more than a life as an "ornament" in the living room. Besides,
I'd just had an offer accepted on a 1st floor Georgian flat, in Camden
town. The Living room is small. These things were large. QED.
A quick search on Google brought me to Stefano's site,
www.audioscope.net. It was well laid out and professionally done (I'm in
the e-commerce business myself) so I knew I would be getting an informed
response when I sent a speculative email with some photos. A response
was immediate. Further phots sent, and a price agreed. Stefano wanted to
come over to the UK from Germany to pick them up personally.
The agreed Friday arrived, and there was the door bell. 20 mins early
(we'd both forgotten the time difference thanks to British Summer Time,
or was it British Winter Time, who knows?
Snuggly packed in the car Stafano said he had promised a friend he would
send a postcard from Stone Henge.
Stone Henge? I live in Hertfordshire. That ring of stones was A LONG WAY
AWAY. I had to prove it to him on a map.
I think he got my point....
