Technics 01K Serie! xxx-rare!
These are Technics most sophisticated High End Minis ever built! Technics had a consequent aim when developing these units. Absolute high end in miniature design. No other brand produced minis in such extraordinary quality. Every detail is added with so much love for perfection. Not just the visible details, of course - This stereo can easily compete with the big ones, sonically and optically.
The amplifier is split into 3 units. There is a pre amp with 3 high level inputs, phono MM and MC. The power amp section has an external power supply for sovereign and very clean DC power. The main amplifier, the last component delivers 2 x 60 watts into 8 Ohms. It is hard to believe if you do a blind test... The signal/noise ratio combined with explosive dynamics proof that size does not always matter.
The Tuner plays very homogeneous, no distortion, just a warm and clean sound. It is one of the last analog tuners built, with decades of tuner engeneering experience and knowledge.
The 2 head direct drive cassette deck is already known. The mechanism is the same you find in the legendary Technics models RS-M 85, 88 and 95. This mechanism has one belt for the counter only. It is almost maintainace free... The results in playback and recording are astonishing. Is this a Nakamichi deck playing? The heads show no wear, this deck has hardly been used.
Last but not least, we have the 2-way all aluminium speakers SB-F1. They complete the set in an adequate way. The acoustic suspension speakers are very precise and balanced. These are available in Technics brown colour as well. Alternatively, the SB-F2 offer a little more power handling (13 cm woofer)
All in all, a stereo system that did not sell a lot. The price was much higher than the Aiwa or Aurex minis. Be sure, the quality the Technics is definetly better. The units are entirely made of aluminium, you will not find any sheet metal here. All the knobs are made of anodized aluminium. On top of every unit you find the schematic circuit layout, just like on all Technics "top of the line" units. A wonderful detail that does not underline the techical details in the first place but underlines and proofs an everlasting, classic style.
The optical condition is excellent. This unit shows some minor wear, as the Technics painting is very delicate. Nothing that will affect the optical appearance, though. All units have been recently serviced. A woderful, exclusive and very rare mini stereo in collectors condition.
