Sony TAN-8550 V-FET
For all those who love absolute sonic harmony, here's an amplifier that's never intrusive, always smooth, and simply looks absolutely chic.
The optical peak/VU meters are among the best analog meters ever built. Absolutely seamless, organic movement – without processors, of course. Interestingly, Sony was certainly inspired by the legendary Siemens "J55 light meters." These were found in most radio stations and recording studios until the late 1970s. They operate on the same principle, but were significantly reduced in size and weight (mass). They require the same voltages as standard VU meters and didn't need a complex control unit like the Siemens U71.
The amplifier is technically perfect with all its original transistor components. Cleaned and adjusted, it plays like new. There are slight signs of wear on the top visible under spotlight conditions, but overall it looks very neat.
