Unilabs Audioscope 0010
This is a true piece of Italian Audio History and the most beautiful stereo spectrum analyzer ever. And it was the first using a LED graphic display. Worldwide. Made by the former Unilabs company which after the huge success of the 1/3 octave spectrum analyzer 2813 that you found worldwide in most mixing studios until the mid 90ies when digital changed classic work paths, simply changed its name in the early 80ies to "Audioscope".
I got my first in 1979 when the first series of these was released. With a crazy price tag at the time, retail was around 600000 italian Lire. I loved it so much and "wasted my young years" watching this. Beside the oscilloscopes which were quite addicting, this one made super cool light. It was the time, where LED´s just came up and and the LED driver ICs (Siemens UAA180) and LED´s themselves where still xxxxpensive to the max.
Unilabs produced this model for few years only. If I remember right, 1979 until the early 80ies. I was able to locate it in the "Annuario del Suono" of 1985, but already without a picture :-(
It was way to expensive for privates and FL displays took over very quick. Unilabs AKA Audioscope focused on the pro version witch with its 28 x 12 LEDs and third octave became a studio standard really quick.
Today, this unit is of course xxx rare. The 1/3 octave mono version is easy to locate. Not this one for sure. The model offered was the very first series from 1979 with the acryllic face plate. There is no serial. It was a sort of first release prototype production run of very few units for presentation on the italian audio fairs. One year later, this model was produced with a regular aluminium brushed black face plate in 19 inch format for rack mount. However, that one is not as sexy as this glossy acryl facia. There were also some technical upgrades as the later models had an integrated pink noise generator as well as a pink noise output. All had microphone inputs of course but honestly, if you want to equalize the room acoustics, you would not use the 10 band stereo device but the 1/3 octave analyzer. So this one is a super cool gimick in the first place.
I don´t know how many of these were produced but I guess it was quite a small production run with no more than 50 units per year. So if you have a chance to put your hands on one of these, don´t miss it.
The condition is very nice. It has been refurbished and plays perfectly. It comes with a copy of the original manual... which was a copy as well. And I add a copy of my original warranty card from my devices. Please note that the manual is italian only....
